This is a great time to buy and there are programs to help you do so. $8,000 Tax Credit First -Time Home Buyer ...if you (and your spouse) are buying a home for the first time during the last 3 years. you're eligible for an $8,000 tax credit, as long as you phurchase the home sometime between January 1st and December 1st, 2009. Stay in your home for at least three years and you won't have to repay the credit. Bought a home last year in 2008? You can still claim a $7,500 credit, but you'll have to repay it (over 15 years). Furthermore there is a tax credit for phurchasing a new construction home. The tax credit is the lessor of $10,000 or 5% of the purchase price sold on or before March 1,2010. These two credits can be combined so, theoretically, if a first time home buyer purchases a new construction home they have the potential to receive up to $18,000 in tax credits. First-Time Home Buyers Who lose Thier Jobs Due to Layoffs ...may be eligible to receive up to $1,500 per month, for six months, to help make thier mortgage payments. These are the Qualifications: * Be a first time home buyer-or someone who hasn't owned a home in three or more years. *Open escrow April 2, 2009 or later, and close before December 31,2009. *Purchase the property in California, must be owner occupied. *Not be self -employed or more than 70 years of age.
